And Thus My Gastronomic Adventure Has Begun...

Lovash Indian Cuisine
01.11. 2011

As I began my journey to discover the hidden gems of Philadelphia, my friend who recently just landed from his trip to India, was kind enough to provide me with my first gastronomic adventure. First, what is gastronomy?

gas·tron·o·my (noun)
the practice or art of choosing, cooking, and eating good food
The chef and owner of Lovash - Chef Mohan Parmar certainly excels in the art of gastronomy and much more. Chef Parmar who has served the Philadelphia area for over thirty years recently celebrated the ten year anniversary of this Souh Street Restaurant. With an extensive culinary background and a great sense of humor, Chef Parmar has also created a new portal to his Indian Cuisine with a food cart by the same name located at 37th & Spruce (near the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business).
The atmosphere of Lovash is very warm and welcoming.  With vibrant colors and music that will put you at ease. Their Director of Operations, Mr. Yasser Hussain was kind, courteous, efficient and answers all the questions we had regarding the menu. We went during lunch hour and we were suprise to find out that Chef-Parmar consciously made the decision to shy away from buffet, because he believes that food should be served fresh to order. The lunch menu biggest highlights are its simplicity and clear descriptions for Indian cuisine newcomer such as myself.

For lunch we stared with the mix appetizers:

Shammi kebab, chicken tikka, vegetables pakoras and samosas w/ chutney ($5.95)

My Lunch Entree:

Lovash Lamb sandwhich on freshly made clay naan served with raita ($7.95)

All the foods were prepared and served with great care and attention. The presentations were beautiful and above all the flavors has a clean bite and yet, you cannot miss the complex Indian flavors that were present. Throughout our lunch, both Chef and Yasser went above and beyond to make our dining experience memorable

Chef Parmar has informed me that he is currently working on a book which will be titled Lovash that will hopefully be released within the year; Lovash will have an Indian fusion twist but with flavor and ingredients true to Indian cuisine.
Thank you Chef Parmar & Mr. Hussain for sharing your stories, culture and food. We had an amazing time dining and conversing at Lovash.
