Makeup Brush Container Idea (Under $5- IKEA)
Hi all,
As my brush collection is growing my simple glass container was just not cutting it anymore. So I decided to create my own simple & cheap version of a makeup container. I know that a lot of people re-use candle jars or dollar store vases but I really wanted something that wasn't a clear container because I already use a clear jar for my lip balms and lip glosses. I had purchased this Stainless Steel container from IKEA a few months ago in the clearance section for $1. It was a part of their Gasgrund line that I believe they've discontinued. I had originally purchased this container to store cotton balls inside one of my drawers but I've decided to use it as the base for my makeup container.
The second item you need is a filler. While browsing I found that a couple of the instructions use coffee beans, now don't get me wrong I love coffee. I really do! But I do not want to waste any coffee beans as fillers for this container. I was having a hard time finding the fillers because I didn't really like the idea of using those plant stones at the dollar store and I couldn't find anything at my local craft stores. I finally circled back around to IKEA while getting some storage bins and I found the perfect decorative crushed glass. I purchased the Kulort decorative crushed glass in Lilac for $2.99 (1.54 lb of product).
I poured about 60% of the crushed glass into the container and tucked my brushes in the crushed glass. You want to make sure that you put enough materials so that there's depth for each individual brush to stand by itself. After I'm satisfied with the container I still had quiet a few of the products left so I poured it into a small glass container that holds my everyday eye liners, lip liners, mascara and concealer, and another container that holds my lip balms and lip glosses.
In the future, I may want to use the beads or container for something else so I want to keep the crushed glass' plastic container just in case I want to change things up. So I've decided to be creative and store my Plum Pudding Tea Candle lights in the container so that 1) my candles will be stored in a tight container and 2) the container will be available in case I need to store the crushed glass back into it
The Kulort is currently available at IKEA in stores and online for $2.99 in green, lilac, turquoise, black white and gray.
I spent a total $4.03 for this project. You don't need to spend a lot of money to have a great looking container, you can certainly use things that are laying around your house or re-purpose items like a mason jar, candle jar, or even a flower vase. I am a big fan of bargain hunting so finding these items for under $5 (especially that container for $1!) at IKEA was a lot of fun.
Before I end my last entry in 2013 I just want to say a HUGE thank you for reading my blog! I hope you have an amazing time bringing in the New Year with families and friends and I hope to see you all back here on my blog with more content in 2014.
Wishing you love and joy always!
Until next time,
Jessica
