Feeling Thrifty - IKEA Home & Thrift Store Haul
Hi all,
I recently just returned from an amazing road trip down to Florida which I will write about on a later date and I was just really inspired by what I saw and experienced that I decided to revamp my room/office. One of the main problem I have in my room is that I have TONS of books. There are books at every corner and hidden nooks of my room and it's out of control. So let's just get it out... I am a book hoarder. It's not as difficult for me to part with clothing or make up than with books. I love going to second hand shops and of course my library enables me by having a whole floor of books for sale (for like a 25 cents!!!). It is absolute madness. My goal is to clear out a lot of the old school textbooks and books that are outdated from my work area so I can actually have a dedicated space for blogging. And that way I can actually work, write and upload photos from my desktop instead of from a laptop somewhere in the house.
So I know that I won't be able to get rid of everything all at once, but I figured I'd get a head start by sorting out the books so I went to IKEA to get some storage for my books and ended up getting side tracked by the "AS IS" section and went a little bit out of control. I don't know if every IKEA has an "AS IS" section but it's an area by the check out registers where they put last season, damaged or display items on clearance. I usually buy a couple of things but never this much from the "AS IS" section. Bedding is one of the harder items to purchase out of "AS IS" because things don't match, some are damaged, you can't find the full set, etc. But I got real inspired and was able to find things that I thought would be great for my home. Since I was on thrifty mode I also decided to throw in a couple of the items I picked up from a thrift store that recently opened in my neighborhood.
IKEA
The first thing I picked up was this queen size duvet cover with red and white stripes with floral details that I was lucky enough to find with matching pillow covers. The duvet cover I picked up for $10 and the pillow covers were $2 each. This set full price would've been around $39.99.
The rest of the pillow covers I purchased were not part of a set, I just purchased them in twos with the intention of using them as pairs.
The first pair have the same exact printing but different color, I thought they were fun and modern. I don't have a lot of color pillow cases like this so I thought this would be great to have for maybe the Fall/Winter season. They were $2 each.
These two pillow cases are for the over sized pillows. The one the left has a bunch of different flowers while the right one is all pink. I just love floral prints... Again these were $2 each.
The final pair is the grey combination. The left is an abstract grey flowers on a white background and the one the right is a white polka dot on a grey background. Did I mention they were $1 each? Yeah, not a pair but I'll make it work.
The last thing I picked up from the "AS IS" section is this really pretty, cottage-y apron that I got for $4. It's just so adorable.
The products that were the reason why I went to IKEA in the first place were this KASSETT box with lid which are listed 2 for $6.99. I actually use these already in my room for books and had intended on getting 4 boxes total but I really did not like the colors they have for this season. Every season IKEA decided to switch the colors of the KASSETT box and this year I think is black and red and it just does not compliment what I have at home so I went and got 4 of the new TJENA box in pink. They were $3.49 and they are structurally much better than the KASSETT ones. The TJENA boxes have cut out handles for better grip and it holds my books much better than the KASSETT. Like many other IKEA products they requires self assembly but they were very easy to assembled. I must say however the stick on label was a waste. So I shall find another way of labeling the boxes.
So that was the end of my quiet lengthy IKEA Haul. But before we part I just want to throw in two items that I picked up from a thrift store that not-so-recently opened in my neighborhood. I picked up this storage thingy that had a $2.99 Target Clearance label for $1.
And this beautiful brand new journal that had a $13 Barnes and Noble tag which I also got for $1. Again, can you tell I'm obsessed with floral this summer? The quote is beautiful and this is actually my new blogging book. It makes me happy to write in it and I've been looking for months for a new blog journal so it was definitely a great buy and I'm very happy with it.
I hope you were inspired by some of the thrifty items that I recently got. I like to shop but I love a great bargain so let me know what great finds you've found at IKEA, home goods, thrift shops or flea markets, etc that you just absolutely love.
Until next time,
