Book Week- Cassey Ho's Hot Body Year Round Book Review
This week is going to be Book Week here on Defining My World. Today is my review of Casey Ho's (Blogilates) new book - Hot Body Year Round, on Thursday I will be participating in the release week for Olivia Miles' new book and Saturday is going to be my April Reading Challenge Update.
I've been subscribed to Cassey Ho's Blogilates YouTube channel for a couple of years now and I absolutely adore her personality. I always get really hesitant to read books by YouTubers but I feel like Cassey being a fitness instructor has something different to offer. I was right, this book does not disappoint.
The book is titled Hot Body Year Round: The Pop Pilates Plan to Get Slim, Eat Clean, and Live Happy Through Every Season. In case you are not familiar with the term POP Pilates, no worries she describes it really well in the book but it's basically a mix of classical Pilates move mix with a lot of intense core exercises. I don't think you have to be a Cassey Ho subscriber to enjoy this book, but I do think it helps to watch a couple of her videos and get a feel for what POP Pilates is all about.
This is more than just an exercise book. It's also a year round lifestyle plan. She includes exercise and meal charts, how-to clean eat, healthy recipes and motivational notes from Cassey herself.
The book is divided in two parts. Part 1 titled "The Plan" basically sets you up for the rest of the book while Part 2 titled "The Seasons" breaks the exercises and lifestyle plan into four distinct seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. Each season has it's own theme and focus both for the exercise moves and eating plans.
Since we are in the Spring season, there are 30 different moves that you can mix and match. I've tried a few of them following her plan, some were very nice and relaxing and others made me a cry a little. But that's okay, fitness is a journey and take it one exercise at a time. She talks a lot about listening to your body and making sure that you drink a lot of water.
All of the recipes were created with the different seasons and fruits/veggies availability in mind. I haven't seen a recipe that was too difficult to make. I already have a couple of favorites: sriracha frittata and mini apple crumble protein pancakes.
