e.l.f. December #PlayBeautifully Review & Swatches

Today I will be sharing 5 relatively new products that e.l.f. sent me for the December #PlayBeautifully Challenge.

On a quick side note, I recently visited the e.l.f. Broadway location in NYC and if you are based in and around New York City or planning a visit soon definitely check it out.

I will have info and links to products mentioned at the end of the post.

Sculpting Face Brush

e.l.f., e.l.f. cosmetics, play beautifully, elf brushes, elf shadows, elf mascara, elf contour

Let's start with my favorite product which is the Sculpting Face brush. This is a relatively new product in e.l.f. studio line brush collection along with two of the "selfie-ready" brushes. This brush is fantastic. It's one of those things that you don't need but I just absolutely love using it.  I've been using it mostly for contouring with both of the  St. Lucia contouring duo in powder & cream form.

Bear in mind that this is different than the contouring brush because the sculpting face brush as you can see above is cut at an angle and has dip that cups your cheeks, jaw line and forehead really nicely vs. the contouring brush which is cut straight across.

You have to be really light handed with this brush because it will pick up a lot of product. The brush is not too stiff so you can really get in there and sculpt. If you are still new at contouring, I would recommend using a smaller brush like the small stipple brush which I've used when I started contouring.

There are probably 5 other e.l.f. brushes (including the actual contouring brush) that will contour just as well but this is a fun brush to have if you love make up and experimenting with different tools. Many of the e.l.f. brushes are my go-to brushes over some of the Real Techniques so if you are looking for a cheap long-lasting brushes give e.l.f. a try.

Extra Thick Ink Eyeliner in Blackest Black
This Extra Thick Ink Eyeliner is e.l.f.'s take on jumbo eyeliner and I like it. The size is really nice to get a quick smoky look. I don't think the formula is quite as good as the precision liquid liner that I got back in November which to me just glides more smoothly and is actually more pigmented. With that said this liner is long lasting and it doesn't smudge.

Long-lasting Lustrous Eyeshadow in Toast
A couple of months ago I found this fantastic Beauty and the Beast inspired e.l.f whipped shadow smudge pot that I used in a Belle Inspired look and I couldn't find anything quite similar at e.l.f. so I actually bought a back up of the Beauty & the Beast one because I love it so much. Lo' and behold this long-lasting lustrous eyeshadow in Toast is the same shade and formulation and I just really love it. It's a fantastic base for just a really gorgeous shimmery nude look. If I'm super lazy in the morning I would just apply this one with a little bit of light brown matte shadow and it looks like I tried a little. For $3, it lasts almost as long as my Maybelline color Tattoo.

Clay Eyeshadow Palette in Smoked to Perfection
This new Clay eyeshadow palette is infused with Kaolin Clay. I received the Smoked to Perfection which is a purple palette. The palette actually comes with this plastic notes on which shadows to use for base, crease, highlight, etc. I swatched it once in the image below but you can definitely build it up for a more smokier look. The shimmery white shadow is definitely a loose powder just pact inside the palette because I've tried using it a few times as a regular shadow and it just doesn't work. There's a lot of fall out with that particular shade and formula. I would recommend either wetting the brush or using e.l.f. Makeup lock and seal so it'll actually stay. The shadows are all really smooth and easy to blend.

The products are swatched in order (liner, lustrous shadow in toast & Smoked to Perfection)

3-in-1 Mascara: Lengthen, Define & Volumize

The final product is the 3-in-1 Mascara which claims to have long lasting formula and is shaped so that it can lengthen, define & volumize lashes. This mascara has that weird brush which has a ball-shaped tip which is supposed to help you push your lashes upwards to create more definition. The problem for me personally is that I have really tiny and fine lashes and this just didn't quite do it for me. It's a good formula and definitely long lasting. It's not heavy  and didn't smudge but it just didn't quite volumize my lashes to what I know it can be using some of my other favorites mascara. I think if you are one of the lucky ones who actually have proper lashes, the formula is great.

Look & Final Thoughts
I used all of the products above to create this look for Christmas Eve and I actually took this later on the evening about 4 to 5 hours after I applied the makeup. As you an seet he shadows and liners are pretty much in tact and there were smudging that I usually get from liners or mascara.

e.l.f. is constantly creating new products that are really on trend and exciting. I have my eye currently on a couple of their new skin care products. If you want to keep up-to-date with recent releases you can follow them on Instagram. e.l.f does a lot of giveaways on Insta as well so give them some love and use #playbeautifully.
