The Life-Changing Manga of Tidying up by Marie Kondo Book Review

At this point there's a lot of information, Youtube videos, rewrites/summaries, how-to's from a lot of different creators in KonMari method but I found that nothing really beats the original source. This manga in particular I think is a welcome addition to the series.

The Life Changing Manga of Tidying Up, Marie Kondo, The Life Changing Art of Tidying Up

The manga follows the story of Chiaki who is a 29 years old working professional living by herself in a one bedroom apartment who finds herself  needing Marie Kondo's help. If you've read the book and are interested in the manga I think it's helpful to have some additional context. There are some videos that were done by NHK that documents Kondo's interaction with her clients. This manga really serves as medium if you are interested in reading up more about the method but aren't interested in reading the full book. It is a condensed version of the original book and also mixed in with the additional lessons from Spark Joy. One of my favorite lesson as seen below is when Chiaki tries to keep some of her less used shirts and use it as pajamas/sleepwear.

The manga makes the content feels more relateable and visual. Even though it is a translated version having watched a lot of Kondo's interviews and interaction with her clients her charm and personality truly exist and live in this medium. In terms of content and value, if you truly despise reading, then the manga is great but I do think that the original book still has a lot of things that are quiet useful especially when she talks about attachments and items that are hard to part with.

I highly recommend this book and if you are interested in how I've applied this method to my life you can check out my previous posts - a review of Spark Joy & Life after Decluttering. As always thanks for reading.

Until next time,
