Make up & Skin Care 3 steps buying guide

While I was watching Steven and Chris (a Canadian talk show) yesterday afternoon, I heard that on average a woman in 2012 would spend a little over $200 a year on Make up. As I am preparing my list of 2012 Favorite products it occurred to me that a lot of the products I own, IF I were to buy them individually full price, would probably hit about $200 a year, but what is considered "Make up"? For the article and this blog purpose, I will include face wash and moisturizers in the mix.

Well here's a link to a 2012 article by Bellasugar Australia regarding women and make uphttp://www.bellasugar.com.au/How-Much-Women-Spend-Makeup-Life-7708228

And here's the stats:

"The results show that a woman spends about 20 minutes doing her makeup each day. (That's 330 days out of her lifetime.)
According to the study, from the ages of 16 to 65, a woman shops for cosmetics about five times a year. Each time she'll spend roughly $43, equaling about $216 a year." (2010)

Crazy eh?

Here are some of my 3 tips regarding buying make up/cosmetic products:
1. Know your skin!

  • You need to know  what type of skin you have in order to get the right foundation, skin care, make up, etc. As the season changes, notice if your face is oily, tight, dry allover or only on your t-zones. All of this information will help beauty advisors (if you go to their stands at the mall, Sephora, Ulta, etc) to get you the right product.
2. Do your research and don't follow fads.
  • You may love a product that a celebrity or your friend is using but get  sample trial of it first if possible and try it out. What works for them, may not work for you.  Sample size trials are your friend :)
3. Look for deals.
  •  You always wants to look for deals wherever you shop for make up. At the drugstores always look for coupons whether it's from the circulars, Sunday papers, online, mobile or even through the manufacturers website. They all have their own websites and coupons that you can get as long as you sign up. Now department stores are a bit more tricky but what's great about them is this little thing called "gift with purchase". For example: I wanted to purchase the Clinique 3 step skin car for combination/oily skin which at Macy's came up to $67.84. I did my research and I ended up purchasing the 3 step skin care at Nordstrom @ the Cherry Hill Mall for $ 53.50 and I got all of this with my "gift with purchase" http://shop.nordstrom.com/c/clinique-gift-with-purchase-details-popup. Which is why, I never buy mascaras or even eye shadows. My favorite concealer comes from Lancôme and I received it as a gift of purchase. Even Sephora has deals, so be on the lookout for them.
Till next time.
