Summer Trip to Indonesia FINALIZED :D

Hi all,

As I mentioned in my first post of 2013, I will be going to Indonesia for almost the whole month of July. I'll be flying out of JFK with layovers in Frankfurt, Germany and Changi, Singapore. I'll be spending a couple of days in Singapore and then another quick flight to the capital city of Indonesia - Jakarta. This year however, will be my first trip (YAY!) ever to Yogyakarta.

Yogyakarta is a special region in the island of Java and is the historic and cultural center of the Javanese people. The name Yogyakarta derived from the Indian city Ayodhya. The area in which Yogyakarta stands now have transformed from a Javanese Hindu-Buddhist Kingdom in 8th Century CE to an Empire and to a large city led by Sultans. When Mr. Sukarno who became the first President of the Republic of Indonesia declared independence against the Dutch colonialist, the Sultan of Yogyakarta was one of the first political leader who supported his cause for a united Indonesia.

I am truly excited to not only see Yogyakarta which will be a nice change of pace from the bustling city of Jakarta but also to see Borobudur Temple Compounds (a UNESCO World Heritage Center) which is a 45 minutes drive north of Yogyakarta.

In addition to our trip to Yogkarta, I'll also be going to National Botanical Garden of Indonesia in Bogor; where it is the native environment for the Rafflesia flower (the largest flower in the world), and to the province of Lembang and the capital city of West Java- Bandung.

I hope that I'll be able to share my thoughts throughout the trip and post some pictures up to this blog. And it's my hope that you all be able to see little glimpses of Indonesia.

Best,
Jessica
