BB Cream- Which One Is Right For You?

Hi y'all,

Back again today with a quick shopping summary guide for the new "in" product of this season -BB cream and also my review of the Clinique Age Defense BB Cream with SPF 30.

BB (Blemish Balm) Cream
BB or Blemish Balm cream originated in Germany in the 1960s but it wasn't a successful cosmetic product until it became this big business in Asia starting in the 1990s. A lot of famous Japanese and Korean Actress claimed to use it and since they look amazing on them it became an extremely popular cosmetic product in Asian countries such as Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, China, etc.

The purpose of the Blemish Balm is to eliminate imperfection to create this almost porcelain-like skin that the average Asian women looks for in their cosmetic products. Each BB cream depending on which companies makes it has different ingredients but the main purpose of BB cream is to hydrate, prime, conceal, treat and protect the face. They do this by using different ingredients that soothes the face such as Aloe or some kind oil like Tea tree oil. It's also important to make sure that the BB you are looking for has SPF because that's one of the main reason you would buy a product like this is to avoid additional sun damage. Now you can purchase BB cream made by both Asian and Western countries. Just a quick note that if you plan on trying an Asian made BB cream or any Asian cosmetic product in general oftentimes they would have a "whitening" ingredient because that's what a lot of Asian women look for while most American women would look for cosmetic product that "bronze/tan" the skin. In recent year's there's been a lot of BB creams in the US market but again you just have to make sure that it suits your skin type/color and it has the protection and ingredients that would hydrate and treat your skin.

Most BB products would come in a variety of shade. Clinique for example has 3 different shades while most of the Asian brand such as Etude House would not only carry more shades but different type of BBs. In the State you can literally walk into a Sephora or an Ulta and ask for BB creams. The pricing for BB creams in the Sephoras or even at the Department stores make up counters varies from $37 for the Clinique, $42 for Bobbi Brown, up to $56 for the Dior. You can also find BB at a drugstore which is made by Garnier for just $10.

Product Review
Clinique Age Defense BB Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 30 (Shade 02 for Very Fair to Moderately Fair with Golden Undertones)

I got this product maybe about 8 weeks ago and I am now a BB cream believer. As I've mentioned in my previous posts, I have a combination-oily skin so a lot of product doesn't work especially in the summer time. I decided to stick with a brand that I know works for my skin so I went to a Macy's nearby and I asked to try the product. I eventually got the product and it is one of the best investment I've made.

So the Clinique BB can work one or two ways, you can use it as primer to prep your face for foundation and make ups or you can just use it (which is what I like to do) after a moisturizer application. Currently I use it in alternation with my regular Clinique's liquid foundation.

What I love about the product:
- The shade is perfect for me, and it blends so naturally it doesn't even look like I have anything on.
- It's super light and I would wear it all day and forget that I even have it on.
- It eliminates the visibility of pores, reduces redness and creates a clean even look.

What I don't love about the product:
- It's on the pricier end of cosmetics (it's $10 more than the cost of my Even Better Clinique Foundation). Even though it literally takes only a two drops if you plan on using it every day it becomes kinda pricey.
- It only comes in three shades :(
- Unlike my foundation, this product doesn't have oil control which means that in a warm winter days I would start seeing oil develop in my T-zone, so I would be interested to see how this product works in the coming warmer months.

Overall I give this product a B. There's a lot of positive which is worth it's current investment but I would have to see if I would get another bottle after this summer. I asked my cousin in Indonesia to purchased one of Etude House's BB cream for me, so I definitely want to compare them first and see which one works best.

Till next time,

Jessica
