DIY Lip Scrub- Polar Vortex Edition
zHi all,
As the Polar Vortex comes to an end I figured I celebrate it with a little bit of DIY project. I don't know whose been shopping in this frigid weather but thank you polar vortex for saving me some money. This Lip Scrub is inspired by the LUSH Lip Scrub. I wanted to make lip scrub with ingredients I already have at home mainly because it is just really cold outside. So for this DIY Lip Scrub you only need five ingredients:
I ended up using dark brown sugar which is coarser than using caster sugar but I like the texture of it better and a drop of vanilla extract for flavoring.
- Sugar (Caster or Brown)
- Olive Oil (I use Extra Virgin Olive Oil)
- Honey
- Flavoring (Vanilla, Peppermint, Lemon, Lime, Strawberry)
- Food coloring/dye (Optional)
I ended up using dark brown sugar which is coarser than using caster sugar but I like the texture of it better and a drop of vanilla extract for flavoring.
I didn't have a large container so I mixed 1 teaspoon of dark brown sugar with 2/3 teaspoon of olive oil. You want to make sure it mixes well together before adding on just a drop or two of honey to make it stick and a drop of whatever flavoring you like (I used vanilla). Since I used dark brown sugar I didn't want to add any food coloring because it's not going to show. But if you use light brown sugar or caster sugar you can carefully mix in a very tiny amount of red coloring so that the scrub will have pink/reddish tint. Now the coloring will stain your lip so you want to be careful with the amount of coloring/dye you put in. After you finish mixing the lip scrub, transfer it to a small container. I used an old makeup sample container that I got from either Sephora or Macy's but you can use any kind of small air tight container like this one from the container store.
You can apply the scrub in the morning or at night, I like to do it in the morning before I put on my face moisturizer. I take a small amount of the scrub and rub it on my lips for about 20 seconds and then wipe it off with some warm water. I then use a clear chap stick like the Neutrogena Naturals or my Korres tinted balm and I am good to go.
Hope this helps some of you fight the winter dry lips!
Until next time,
