Inspirational Quotes and Poems Thursday

Hi all,

Today is the first Inspiration Quotes and Poems Thursday of 2014 and it is Harry Potter Theme! When it was first published on June 30th, 1997, I don't think that even J.K. Rowling herself knew the kind of popularity and impact that it would have on the readers of the world.

Growing up with Harry Potter as an immigrant was such a blessing in disguise. Blessing that I wouldn't even realize until years later. The first Harry Potter book became the first English novel that I finished by myself outside of school. To have a book that I could feel connected to at such a strange and tough time in my life where I didn't feel like I fit in gave me safe place to breathe and reflect. Harry Potter discuses themes that I personally relate to at that moment and time. I moved to the U.S. in 2001 (the first movie was released in 2002), I was bullied in Middle school, I was living in a new place where I feel like I didn't fit in and everything was just different than what I knew. But more than the sad narrative that I relate to, what I took away from Harry Potter is the need to stand up for myself, to have a strong support system (and appreciate them), and to have the strength to fight my inner demons and the naysayers.

Since the Harry Potter series, I've certainly found books that I've certainly connect to but the timing of this series in particular (between the books and the movies) fit right in my own personal struggle and narrative.

Inspired by my recent marathon of Harry Potter movies (Thank you ABC Family!) Here are some of my favorite quotes from Harry Potter and J.K. Rowling herself:

“It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all - in which case, you fail by default.”

“I don't go looking for trouble. Trouble usually finds me.”
J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

“I don't believe in the kind of magic in my books. But I do believe something very magical can happen when you read a good book.”
J.K. Rowling

“Differences of habit and language are nothing at all if our aims are identical and our hearts are open.”
J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

“If you don’t like to read, you haven’t found the right book.”
J.K. Rowling
