A Hungry Girl's Guide to Washington D.C. - Chinatown + Penn Quarter

Let me first just say- I love D.C. food scene. I think being the nation's capital and also location wise, it's got a lot of food options going on.  The places in this list are just some of my favorite restaurants/eateries to visit. I'll try to make them super diverse and include whatever fun facts or tips I have about them. Since I don't drive, I will list the neighborhood their in and the closest metro station available. I will also link their website/menu so you can check them out!

Just an F.Y.I, I know that there's more to D.C. but all the places in this series are going to be pretty centrally located and easily accessible by metro. Price wise, I'll try to keep them pretty reasonable. D.C. is an expensive town to begin with in terms of eating out (again if you are interested in any of the restaurants, check the website). Just for fun though, I'll throw in one fancy place per post!

Momiji Japanese Restaurant - Chinatown Metro Gallery- Chinatown station
Momiji is hands down the best sushi restaurant in D.C. There are a lot of fancier options available around town, but if we are talking quality, consistency and price- Momiji is the place to go. It offers really awesome lunch menu and their specialty rolls are supper yummy. I was here recently with friends and my dinner came to about $20. Just a quick note to say that they specialize in sushi and sashimi so they don't offer a large kitchen menu so you are not gonna find a large option if you are looking for ramen, udon or katsus.

Nando's Peri-Peri  - Chinatown Metro Gallery- Chinatown station
If you watch a lot of British based YouTubers, you've probably heard about Nando's Peri-Peri chicken. This famous Portuguese flame grilled chicken is really tender and packed with so much flavor. I don't know how it works in Britain but in D.C. you get a table and menu and then you go up to the counter and order your food. You will then get a number and a server will bring the food to you when it's ready. I like dark meat so I usually order their 1/4 chicken leg & thigh + peri-peri chips (fries). When you order, they'll ask the heat/spice level you want. You can check out their Peri-ometer for guidance, I usually go with medium. When I'm feeling wild, I would also add their special peri-peri mayonaisse on the side.

Hill Country Barbecue & Market Penn Quarter/Chinatown - Metro Gallery/Chinatown Station Texas Style Barbecue & Live Music
It's kinda hard to find a good "dry" rub barbecue place in Philly, there's a lot more "wet" barbecue joints. When I'm missing a good Texas bbq, this is the place to go. Their menu is what you expect from a barbecue joint, but everything are just so darn delicious. On Monday nights they have an all you can eat menu for $27 but I usually order brisket, sweet potato mash & collard greens. The restaurant itself is split to two floors. The main level has long family style tables downstairs  is where the performances and karaoke nights are along with a full bar.

Peacock Alley Tea at The Willard InterContinental Hotel
Penn Quarter - Metro Center Station
If you are feeling fancy check out the historic Willard InterContinental Hotel for afternoon tea. This hotel is known for having lots of famous people (dignitaries. celebs, royalty) and also the location where Martin Luther King Jr. wrote his speech. The Willard InternContinental hotel has 4 restaurants and Peacock Alley is the place to go for proper afternoon tea. The price per person is $49 or $65 with champagne. Bring your fancy attire!

Until next time,
