Sample Sunday - Garnier Clean+ Blackhead Eliminating Scrub & Recommendations
She's posting on Sunday now? Yes, yes she is (well maybe not every week). Sample Sunday is a way for me to actually try out product samples that are piling up in my home. Most of the samples I have are usually from gift with purchase or bonus, if they were sent as a PR sample I will most definitely mark it and let you know. Please take the reviews in this series with the understanding that many of the samples are single use and it's going to be more of first impressions rather than a full on review (I do have a couple full size samples). With that said let's get right to the first product.
Charcoal has gain traction over the past few years in the beauty world in the States, but it's not anything new. A lot of Asian beauty products have had charcoal properties in it, one of my favorite is the Daiso Charcoal Mask. Charcoal has been known to purify water in Japan for thousands of years and it's believed to help clear out toxins which is why it's in a lot of cleansing products.
This product is part of the Clean+ line by Garnier which I've never seen before but I guess it's been around for a couple of years now. My sample came in a plastic sachet and contains 0.16 fl. oz./5 ml. When I squeezed the product out of the sachet I was surprised by the texture because it doesn't feel like a scrub (if you have the Freeman cucumber mask, that's what it feels like). When applied it feels very cooling and then becomes soapy once I start massaging it on the face. I'm used to a thicker and grittier mask and this for me contains way too much soap. I washed my face with my regular cleanser before applying this and I feel that I probably could get away with just the scrub if I wanted to. Since it's a blackhead eliminating scrub for oily skin, I focused mainly on my nose and oilier part of my face. It feels surprisingly tingly, tight and kinda painful. I had to wash it off really quickly. I thought I was going to develop some allergic reaction (thank goodness I didn't), but I probably will be staying away from this product in the future. If you have non-sensitive oily skin this might works great for you, but sensitive skin folks- beware.
If you have sensitive skin like me and want just a good ol' scrub that you can use once or twice a week I highly recommend Simple Exfoliating Scrub. Need something more heavy duty? My go-to scrub is the Clinique Exfoliating Scrub. And finally, if you want a drugstore charcoal scrub that also doubles as a mask, check out Freeman Charcoal & Black Sugar Facial Polishing Mask. As always, thanks for reading!
Until next time,

This scrub came with I believe one of my Garnier BB Creams. If you shop at Target sometimes they have these bonus things attached to products. The packaging states:
Blackhead eliminating scrub in 1 use: unclog pores & smooths skin; in 1 week: Pores are diminished, complexion is clear. Customized cleansing: micro beads deeply cleanse, tighten pores and smooth skin. Formula with charcoal draws out blackhead causing dirt like a magnet. For oily skin.

Apologies for the bad product image, I took it without my glasses in the bathroom (ooops!) |
