Favorite Foundations - Drugstore & High End

Today's post is actually part 1 of 2 about foundations. The first portion is pretty straight forward, just a quick list of my favorite foundations and the "when" and "what" I use them. The second part I've been working on for quite a bit. Over the past few months I've been looking to try out more drugstore foundations since I had a really good experience with Rimmel and Maybelline. I realize that a lot of people probably go through the same struggle when deciding which foundation to get especially at the drugstore. So hopefully some of the things I've figured out can help some of you in the future. The "How to Color Match" post will be up next week.

Maybelline Foundation Stick, Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 hours, Clinique Even Better, Bobbi Brown Moisture Rich
Is it necessary to have four favorite foundations? Probably not but then this post wouldn't exist.

So I picked two drugstore brands and two high end. This is not a dupe or compare/contrast post. I like them individually for different reasons. So first let's talk about what I like and need in a foundation:

1. SPF- I know that people avoid foundation that has SPF because it can create white cast when you take photography. But personally, I prefer one that has SPF 15 at the very least. I rather ensure that my skin is protected and use additional product like matte powder and matte spray than avoid applying SPF.
2. Texture- I like them on the lighter side (nothing heavy) and one that's build-able. I can then build up the layers to create the kind of coverage I need.
3. Finally I need a foundation that gives my skin an even coverage. I have hyper-pigmentation all over my face but more obvious on my cheeks and sometimes I would struggle  getting foundations that won't turn pink or orange on my face. We will talk about that more on the next post!

So the foundations above definitely checks all of the requirements that I have. The reasons why I posted the colors I have is just to show you how different my color match are depending on the brands. Finding that "perfect" match in foundation is similar to trying out jeans. It can get really frustrating and sometimes you find the perfect one and the company decides to reformulate it or discontinue it (which has happened to me before). Since I live in the east coast of the United States my skin obviously gets darker and paler depending on the season and that also affects the foundation I like to use and the shade I use.

My color match is Natural Beige 220 and this is probably my all time favorite foundation for the summer. It's light but I get a really good coverage out of it and it has a really nice matte powdery finish which is perfect for when it's 100 degrees outside. The Fit Me line I think is just really great because once you get a good match on the foundation you can also pick up the matching powder and complimentary concealer. There's 12 different shades you can choose from ($5.99 Target).

Can I talk about Rimmel anymore this year? Probably not. This was one of the best beauty find of all time. Even though I said earlier this is not a dupe post, I did mentioned on a previous post that this is similar to the Clinique Even Better but sets more dewier and natural. I've been using this a lot more than any other foundation in my collection. The only thing I would say is that I definitely got it a shade too dark so it's gonna be fine for the summer but it's been tricky blending it to my neck. If someone ask me what my everyday foundation is, it'll probably be this product. ($7.99 ULTA)

This clinique foundation was my first ever "high end" foundation and I've been loving it for a long time. At some point in the past five years I would say, it got re-formulated so I did have to change my shade which I will talk about more next week and it seems that Clinique's new products tend to sets orange on my skin which is not good. So I really hope they don't mess with this formula any more because I have a really good color match. I usually use this foundation more at night or on days when I need fuller coverage. ($27)

This foundation does not get the love it truly deserves. This is my "show" foundation and by that I mean when I'm doing theater or performing this is my go-to product. I can't wear MAC foundation because I break out in hives or any heavy theater makeup so this foundation is really great. It sets on my face for a really long time, gives a good coverage and under heavy light it doesn't melt off my face which is awesome. Technically I could wear this in the summer but I feel that it is on the heavier side and even though it'll last in the summer heat I think I'll be quite uncomfortable after a few  hours outside. ($48)

Keep a look out for the second part of my foundation series. As always, thanks for reading!

Until next time,
