October Reading Challenge Update

October was a really rough month for me because I read a couple books less than what I wanted. Fear is setting in that I may not be able to complete the reading challenge as I still have criteria that are challenging to finish. With that said, here's my super quick update:

Popsugar Reading Challenge, Reading Challenge, Celebutantes, Snoopy, Gossip Girl, Amy Poehler

A book based on or turned to a TV show
Gossip Girl #1 by Cecily Von Ziegesar
It was a fun quick read. I was not a super fan of the gossip girl series on WB but I did watched it now and then.

A book that takes place in your hometown
The Americanization of Benjamin Franklin by Gordon S. Wood
I will admit that I did plan on finding a fiction book to read that was based in Philly but since I am running out of time, it's the first book I saw on my TBR box in my room that's set in Philladelphia so I read it. The book is quite interesting as it discuss Franklin's transformation from a relatively pro-British individual to an American revolutionist. The book also discuss the success of his autobiography and how that evolved into the rise of middle class America during the revolutionary period.

A book you own but never read
Celebutantes by Amanda Goldberg & Ruthanna Khalighi Hopper
So when I say I own this book and I never read it, I got this at Borders during it's liquidation sale back in 2011 and I'm pretty sure the only reason I kept it was because of the cover. I don't really know how to describe this book because it has very little plot line or character development. It's one of those books that are so superficial that it's amusingly great. The main character of the book is Lola who is the daughter of a huge Hollywood movie director dad and a supermodel mom making it out on her own in Hollywood (instead of using her family connection and her famous last name). Her task? To get A-list celebrities to wear a unknown designer to the Oscar. It was interesting enough for me to finish the book. I like that the book focus on a 26 year old young woman's relationship with her career rather than some tragic romance with a guy. The book was written by two Hollywood insiders- Amanda Goldberg (Producer Leonardo Goldberg's daughter) and Ruthanna Khalighi Hopper (Actor Dennis Hopper's daughter) so if you are really interested in what goes on behind the scenes of Hollywood award season fashion drama, tabloids or celebs in general, this book is for you.

My mom has (I think) Vol 1-7 and I must say early years snoopy is darn adorable and got a mean streak which I kinda love. I grew up watching the holiday specials on TV with my parents and the Sunday comic strips. Yes, I will probably watch the movie at some point this month.

A book based on a real story
Yes, Please by Amy Poehler
Okay, so I'm pretty sure that this is supposed to be more along the line of a book like Wild or Eat, Pray, Love but again folks, running out of time so I am going with another memoir. I love Amy Poeheler in SNL & Parks and Recreation. I don't why I never got around to reading her memoir. I thought it was a good, fun read. There was no major drama or crazy life stories. It's a memoir about a woman who  is passionate about what she does, worked hard to get to where she is, produced a TV show that had a rough start but a spectacular run and sometimes isn't that just what you want to read? My favorite part of the book was obviously the part where she talked about all of her co-workers on Parks & Rec.

Two months left... I'm probably reading another book as you read this. Thanks for visiting!

Until next time,
