Shinola Detroit Runewell 18 Months Planner Review
Since last November I've been using the bullet journal method to keep track of my life but have found that the lack of a visual calendar required me to basically carry around a second planner for appointment times. I'm very picky about the type of planner I like. I also still want to use the aspects of bullet journal that does work for me so I decided to pick up the Shinola Detroit Runwell 18 Month Planner.
Birthday Calendar
There's a 12 Month Birthday Calendar after the cover page which is pretty old school considering that I have all of my birthday reminders on google. I don't know if I'll actually use this page but it's in the planner.
Notes
The last section of the planner is the Notes and I don't think you can see it that clearly in the picture but there's a generous amount of pages at the end dedicated to notes. I think there's about 30 pages at the end just for notes which is a lot more than a lot of other planner I've seen. Again since I'm planning to still bullet journal, the notes section in the end is great for listings.

I was not familiar with Shinola as a brand prior to purchasing this planner. I actually saw this rotating storage tower at the University of Pennsylvania Bookstore/ Barnes and Noble that was all for Shinola's paper products. The planner comes in 4 different colors which you can check out over on their website. If it's not available at your local college bookstore/B&N you can order it online at Shinola's website for the same price and the bonus is you can actually get in engraved online (which I think is pretty neat).
The Runwell Planner 2016-2017
Hardcover Linen, Smyth Sewn binding
(5.25" x 8.25"/12.70 cm x 20.32 cm)
Medium Salmon Pink
264 Pages Acid Free Text
It took me almost 3 weeks to actually purchase the planner because since the bullet journal worked pretty well for the most part I wasn't sure if investing in a planner was a good idea. The planner costs $24 which is pretty average if you are looking at a comparable brand like Moleskin. It is a lot of money for me to spend on a planner so this is definitely an investment. I ended up biting the bullet and got it in Salmon Pink. I love that it's linen hard cover because knowing my experience with planners before I just do not do well with spiral bindings. Especially if you are going to invest in an 18 month planner having it be durable just ensures it's longevity.
Planner Overview
In terms of the set up it's similar to a lot of other planners in the market. But let's run through some of the features since I haven't seen a review of this particular planner around.
Birthday Calendar

Monthly
The monthly planner is similar to a lot of other planners it does include U.S. and Canadian holidays + monthly overview of the month before and after. I like that it maximizes the space and doesn't have unnecessary add-ons. The boxes are a good size to actually write appointments in.
Weekly
This is the section that attracted me the most because in my head I believe I can still use part of bullet Journaling that works for me in this planner because I have enough space to list things daily. Let me know if you want me to do an update in the future to see if it actually works the way I planned. I love that there's no lines and it's just a blank slate (for the most part).
Notes

I honestly cannot wait till it's July so I can start using it daily. I've started to transfer a few things over but I'm just getting started. I am a little nervous to see if what I planned out is going to work. I know that it's not going to be faithful to the original bullet journal but I feel that you just have to be creative, find what works and if you think something will fit your life better and make it easier to just try it.
Let me know if you have a favorite planner or mobile apps you use faithfully instead of a planner.
Until next time,
