Face Palette Summer 2019 Collection (Bronzer, Contour, Highlighter & Blush)
Hello!
When I was gathering all of my products for this post I was pleasantly surprised that there weren't anything that I haven't used in a long time so I'm pretty happy with the products that I have in this category.
I know the title says palette but I also have 3 single face products that don't fit anywhere else so it's going to join this list. This isn't in any particular order so I apologize.
First up we have the Marc Jacobs Instamarc in 04 Mirage Filter ($49) which is my favorite product out of this collection. I debated between the Instamarc and the Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder and to be honest a few things won me over. The first is the size of this palette and the second is the yellow correcting powder that I actually do use and really enjoy. I also found when I was trying the Kevyn Aucoin sculpting powder in Medium in person that the powder came off a little too grey on my skin. I couldn't try out the light so that could make the biggest difference but I'm pleased with the Instamarc and it's so big that I won't need to buy another contour product for awhile which may be a good thing since I wasn't able to find an active link on the product which sadly means this was discontinued.
The Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Medium/Deep Matte Bronzer ($30) is probably the oldest item in this category and the one item I travel with the most. I don't usually like to carry the palettes when I'm going to work or travelling so this is just the right size. For me personally I can get away with contouring with this bronzer but I definitely prefer to contour with the Marc Jacobs' Instamarc. Please note that I have the old packaging. The link and price is for current product.
Next up are the two Tarteist product. As we go through my collection, you'll be probably see that I have three Tarte products total with the third product being the only product I purchased which is a Tarteist Lip Paint. I have nothing against Tarte it's just that nothing really stands out and or I have other products that either perform better at similar price range or a significantly affordable product that perform as well. In any case, the the Tarteist Pro Glow ($45) I got in my first FabFitFun box last year and it contains: 4 highlighter shades, 1 cream contour and 1 powder contour. I am not a big fan of the packaging and the half-window mirror situation but the products are really nice. I can use the two highlight shades strobe & stunner pretty much year-round with lit probably in the summer but fire is just too golden to use as a highlighter. The powder contour in sculpt is the tiniest bit darker than the Too Faced Chocolated Soleil so it works well for me and the cream contour in shade also does work really well except I don't really like to use cream bronzer anymore so I haven't played around with it for awhile.
The Tarteist Contour Palette I received as a birthday present a few months ago and it contains 6 products which include:1 pink highlighter, 1 white highlighter, 1 yellow correcting powder, 2 contour shades and 1 blush. All the products are powder and unfortunately not labeled. The 2 highlighting powders just don't have any pay-off whatsoever so I don't know what it's supposed to do. The yellow correcting powder works fine but is a little bit chalky compared to the Instamarc. The lighter contour shade is very similar to the Too Faced Chocolate Soleil while the darker contour shade is comparable to the Instamarc and is cool toned. This version is no longer available but version 3 is available through Tarte's website for $30.
Colourpop SuperShock Highlighter in Flexitarian ($8) is still my favorite highlighter. I apply it with my fingers cause I think it works the best. I was so excited when I got this a few years ago and it broke on me this weekend when I was going to an event and I'm really sad. Colourpop describes this as Icy Champagne and I think that's pretty accurate. Before Flexitarian I was never really into highlighter but I realized through this product that I really love highlighter and it's all or nothing for me.
UD x Kristen Leanne Beauty Beam Highlight Palette was an impulse purchase. I was travelling and I forgot my colourpop and this was on clearance at Sephora. I didn't know who Kristen Leanne was but I bought this palette and the lipstick because I really like the color and I love both of them. Since it was a limited edition collab it is no longer available. I thought the three pan no divider thing would drive me crazy but it's been fine. The highlighter goes from rose gold tones to champagne to icy white and even though the rose gold tone is a bit too deep for me when it's all swirled together it creates a really nice shade that works on my skin tone.
The only blush in my collection is the Glossier Cloud Paint in Haze ($18) which is a brownish nude. It is super pigmented and you don't need a lot. I don't usually use blush with a full faced of makeup. I tend to actually use this when I'm not using other face products. So in the summer especially I would apply my spf, a light cushion bb cream and apply this on top and I think the most comfortable and beautiful look.
The final product is a sample size Benefit Watt's Up! Cream to Powder Highlighter that I think was from a Sephora Favorites box. I don't know how I feel about this product. There was a time when I liked cream products but I just don't anymore. The highlighter itself is quiet hard and I don't know if it's because it's old, the fact that it's a sample size or if it just dried up. I will play around with it a little bit more and get back to you maybe on a sample sunday.
Until next time,
Jess
